The U.S. attorney's office said Tuesday that eight people have been arrested and six other defendants have been charged but have not yet been apprehended. All of the defendants are charged with participating in the conspiracy to distribute the chemical compound.

Two of the men — Ryan Ellis of Greenbush and Alan Ketchen of Bangor — are charged with maintaining places to make, distribute and use controlled substances. Prosecutors say Ellis also is charged with possessing firearms while using or being addicted to a controlled substance and carrying firearms during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.

It's unknown if either man is being represented by an attorney.
