
Woman Sentenced to 3 Years for Illegal Firearm Purchase in Maine
A 25-year-old woman was sentenced to over 3 years in prison for directing another person to illegally purchase a firearm for her.
Fentanyl and Money Payment
Nikeshia Knight from Waterville paid for the gun using money and fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
37 Months Behind Bars
She was given 37 months and will also have three years of supervised release. Knight pleaded guilty on October 24, 2024.
Formal Charges
Knight was formally charged with abetting another individual in making false statements during the purchase of a firearm.
ATF Investigation
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives launched the investigation in June 2022 after receiving information about a firearm purchase from a federally licensed firearms dealer in Fairfield.
Fentanyl and Money used to Purchase Gun
Knight told agents “she had used a straw purchaser to acquire the firearm because she would not pass a background check, providing money for the purchase and fentanyl after it was successfully made.”
Man who Bought Gun Sentenced
The man who made the purchase for her was 44-year-old Jason Palmer from Albion. He was sentenced in November 2024 to 12 months in prison.
