The RCMP is investigating after the body of a woman was discovered following a fire at a home in Deerville, New Brunswick, about 20 kilometres north of Woodstock.

The Lakeville and Centreville Fire Departments responded to the blaze Saturday afternoon at a two-story renovated farmhouse on Route 560.

RCMP were called to the scene around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to Sgt. J.P. MacDougall of the Woodstock Detachment. Representatives from the Office of the Fire Marshal and Coroner Services also attended the scene.

Brunswick news reports the fire, which quickly spread throughout the second floor and attic, presented a challenge to firefighters. Crews had to tear apart the metal roof to douse the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
