
Woman Died and Four People Injured after Crash in Maine
One woman died and four people were injured Monday after a two-vehicle crash and one car went into a pond in Gorham.
One Vehicle Upside Down in Water
The Gorham Police Department said a Dodge Grand Caravan was upside down and fully submerged after a collision with a Honda CRV around 5 pm on Bracket Road.
Bystanders Jumped in Pond to Help
Witnesses and bystanders jumped into the water to help the victims. Police and fire crews arrived on the scene shortly after, according to WMTW News.
Two People Trapped Inside Submerged Vehicle
Two people were trapped inside the vehicle and one person was able to escape. Gorham firefighters jumped into the pond and were able to help free the two passengers.
Woman in Submerged Vehicle Died at the Hospital
They were both taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland and were listed in serious condition. A 68-year-old woman, Joyce Provencher from Westbrook, died later from her injuries.
One Man in Critical Condition
A 23-year-old man, Clinton Lubangula from Gorham, remained in critical condition. The driver of the Caravan, 34-year-old Mohammed Obaid, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Two People in Other Vehicle Injured
Two people in the Honda were taken to the hospital. An 82-year-old woman, Jeanne Moore from Saco and 83-year-old Gerald Scribner from Saco had non-life threatening injuries.
