A powerful winter storm is wreaking havoc on Northern Maine and Western New Brunswick today, causing slippery roads and power outages.

According to the National Weather Service and Environment Canada, much of Maine and New Brunswick are under Winter Weather Advisories throughout the day today until 7 p.m. tonight as a nor'easter delivers snow, sleet, rain and freezing rain to the area.

As of 9:30 a.m., the number of NB Power customers without electricity had climbed to more than 11,000. The Woodstock area was the hardest hit with almost 9,400 homes and businesses without power.

Road conditions in our area Wednesday morning are snow covered, with icy patches, drifting snow and slushy patches.

Many schools in the area on both sides of the border were closed for the day, or delayed for several hours.
