Two Injured after Head-On Crash and Tractor-Trailer Fire in Maine
Two men were seriously injured Wednesday after a head-on crash and a tractor-trailer burst into flames on Route 4.
Truck Crossed Centerline
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said 51-year-old Fox Keim crossed the centerline in a pickup truck registered to Marden’s. He collided head-on with a tractor-trailer driven by 82-year-old Roger Eastman.
Fuel Tank Ignited
“The impact caused the commercial vehicle’s fuel tank to rupture, igniting a fire that fully consumed the tractor trailer,” said the Sheriff’s Office.
Trapped Inside Truck
Keim was trapped inside the truck and had to be extricated by First Responders. Both men had serious injuries and were taken to Central Maine Medical Center.
Fuel Spill Cleanup
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was on the scene for fuel spillage and containment.
Road Closed for Hours
The road was closed for over five hours in the area and has since reopened. The crash investigation is ongoing.
