Police say two people have been arrested after they were found to be in possession of a stolen snowmobile in Benton, New Brunswick, just south of Woodstock.

The Woodstock RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspicious cargo van in Benton around 6:30 Wednesday morning, according to Constable Nick Hamill.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a snowmobile in the back, Hamill said. Further investigation showed the snowmobile had been reported stolen from a business in Jacksonville the night before.

Two people in the van, a 30-year-old man from Hartford and a 20-year-old woman from Jacksonville were arrested at the scene. Both were released and are due to appear in Woodstock Provincial Court on May 8.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
