August 4 - Trooper Monahan responded to Monticello for a report of two males that were being assaulted by another male and possibly held hostage in a camper. One of the males was physically kicked out of the camper by the other male and the other male was told he couldn’t leave the camper. After arriving at the camper, Trooper Monahan, assisted by Trooper Lilley, Deputy Wheeler and Warden Sgt. Menard were able to arrest the male without incident and he was transported to Aroostook County Jail and charged with assault and criminal restraint.

August 4 - While standing on the side of the road speaking with someone, Trooper Darcy observed a male from Patten with a suspended driver’s license drive by. Trooper Darcy stopped the vehicle and summoned the driver for Operating after Suspension (OAS). Trooper Darcy had summoned the same male for OAS on June /29 as well.

August 5 - Trooper Doody arrested a 60-year-old Connecticut man for OUI after a complaint was called in that he left a residence in Mars Hill intoxicated.

August 5 – Trooper Doody and Sgt. Haines assisted Ashland PD with a bail check where the man ran off into the woods after Ashland PD first left the residence to wait for backup. Trooper Sylvia was on route with his K-9, but was diverted to assist PIPD with another track. At that call, Troopers Casavant and Sylvia tracked two suspects who fled on foot from a traffic stop and it appeared they were picked up a short distance from the initial scene.

August 6 - Trooper Marquis responded to Woodland for a report of a missing 16-year-old boy. After speaking with the mother, it was determined the boy was not missing and he’d been in contact with people. The boy was not close with his mother and she refused to go get him if he was located. Caribou PD checked a suspected residence without contact. An attempt to locate to check well being was entered into NCIC. While working the same complaint, Trooper Marquis arrested a 67-year-old man at the same residence on an outstanding warrant. Trooper Doody assisted with the investigation.

August 7 - Trooper Marquis was called out and arrested a 24-year-old Sinclair woman for OUI and leaving the scene of a crash after she hit a moose and then showed up at her ex-boyfriend’s house and passed out in his driveway.

August 7 - Troopers Casavant, Sylvia, Doody and Sgt. Haines checked four different addresses in Monticello, Blaine, Chapman and Presque Isle searching for a Maine pretrial man who has warrants and failed to appear for multiple visits.

August 8 - Trooper Saucier charged a 26-year-old Frenchville man with Operating After Suspension (OAS) after a traffic stop on a World Acadian Congress Detail.

August 9 - Trooper Bell, Trooper Darcy, and Sgt. Fuller responded to the Gentle Road in Monticello for a possible OUI and single vehicle crash. The vehicle traveled a significant distance in both ditches striking trees and a mail box. The female was arrested for Criminal OUI.

August 9 - Trooper Marquis arrested a 49-year-old Frenchville man for OUI and Operating without a license after a traffic stop on a World Acadian Congress Detail.

August 9 - Trooper Levesque arrested male subject in Madawaska on two outstanding warrants, one of the warrants was for terrorizing on a Madawaska PD officer. PD deals with the subject on a regular basis and asked for assistance with the arrest. Trooper Levesque was able to locate the subject driving on Main St. in Madawaska and arrested him without incident.

After the arrest, the subject claimed he was having a heart attack and was transported to NMMC for observation overnight. Upon his release early the following morning, Trooper Levesque was waiting outside his room for him and transported him to Aroostook County Jail in Houlton without further incident. Trooper Levesque was assisted by Trooper Marquis.

August 9 - Trooper Levesque arrested a female subject in Woodland after her mother called to have her removed. Female was intoxicated in addition to having been abusing medications and was irate, fighting with mother and also punching her car after they took the keys from her. Female was on bail with alcohol conditions and Trooper Levesque gave her a PBT test which she failed. Female was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release and transported to Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.

August 9 - Trooper Whalen responded to Patten after subject mowing a field located an old container with explosives, Trooper Whalen countercharged the items and destroyed them in a local gravel pit. Trooper Whalen was assisted by Trooper Bean.

August 10 - Houlton RCC received a complaint that a male subject, who had recently (August 4 entry above) been arrested for assault and criminal restraint, was violating his conditions of release by having contact with two victims. Trooper Bell, Trooper Clark, Trooper Darcy, and Sgt. Fuller went to the male’s residence in Monticello to arrest him for violating his conditions of release.

The 6’2’’, 300 lbs. male was known for being assaultive, violent, and mentally unstable. The male was arrested after he refused to submit to arrest and became violent and assaultive with the Troopers. The male was charged with Violating Conditions of Release and Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention.

Overall, World Acadian Congress events saw significantly lower attendance numbers than intelligence estimates had given. Weather was excellent throughout the weekend and all agencies worked well together. Due to lower activity levels and event attendance, the IMAT resources secured early from their detail in Van Buren on Sunday afternoon.
