Here is the latest weekly incident report from Troop F of the Maine State Police, based in Houlton:

March  8 – Trooper Casavant arrested a 31-year-old Mars Hill man on a warrant that had been issued earlier that day by Trooper Michaud.  The male had violated a Protection Order on a former girlfriend. He was located at his residence and taken into custody without incident by Tr. Casavant.

March  9 – Trooper Hafford, Trooper Michaud and Lt. Cote responded to a 2-vehicle head-on collision that occurred on Rt. 161 in Madawaska Lake Twp.  All 3 occupants in the northbound vehicle, including a 2-year-old, were killed in the collision, and the operator of the southbound vehicle, who was 8 months pregnant, was also killed.  Investigation showed that the southbound vehicle was attempting to pass a tractor trailer unit at the time of the crash.  A recent snow squall left a layer of powder on the roadway and the tractor trailer unit had caused a white out condition behind it.  The passing vehicle could not see the oncoming vehicle because of this.  More details here.

March  9 - Troopers Marquis, Casavant and Warden Adrian Marquis arrested a 51-year-old Allagash man on 3 outstanding arrest warrants.  Trooper Marquis received a criminal mischief complaint from the man’s neighbor.  The man had run over the neighbor’s mailbox on purpose and left. The man was taken in custody and charged with Criminal Mischief, Disorderly conduct and violating condition of release. He is presently in ACJ waiting on a trial. The man is currently on 5 sets of Bails.

March  10 - Trooper Hafford responded as an ERT to assist Madawaska PD with a burglary that occurred on March 9th at the residence of the people involved in the fatal crash the previous day.  Tr. Hafford gathered DNA swabs of blood stains and recovered fingerprints at the scene.

March  11 - Trooper Hafford responded to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent for a gunshot wound. Investigation showed that a 23-year-old male had traveled from Palermo to Eagle Lake to visit friends and decided to go into the woods with his girlfriend to teach her how to shoot a handgun. After loading the magazine into the handgun, the male accidentally shot himself in the right hand.

March  12 – Trooper Quint attended a job fair at NMCC in Presque Isle, lot of good interest from the attendees.

March  12 – Trooper Nick Casavant investigated a harassment complaint in Eagle Lake.  A 67-year-old Fort Kent man called to report he was being harassed by a 55-year-old man when he went ice fishing in Eagle Lake.  The harassment stemmed over a deer that had been shot over fifteen years ago.  The male from Eagle Lake believes that it was his deer and not the male from Fort Kent.  Both parties were told to stay away from each other and the male from Eagle Lake was issued a written harassment warning.

March  12 - Trooper Saucier investigated an identity theft case in Crystal where a female attempted to file her tax return only to learn someone had already used her SSN and received a return.  Tr. Saucier provided her with the proper procedures to follow regarding identity theft and the case was referred to the IRS Fraud Unit who is investigating the case.

March  13 – Trooper Quint responded to report of a stolen car in Blaine, vehicle was found a few feet from the victim’s residence.  Victim had a party the night before and was not forthcoming with names of people at her house and evidence doesn’t suggest the car was actually stolen.  Vehicle was towed from the scene and owner picked it up later with the same subject that had been at her house the night before.

March  14 - Trooper Darcy charged a 26-year-old female from Oakfield with Operating after Suspension as the result of a traffic stop in Oakfield.

March  14 - Trooper Darcy stopped a vehicle on I-95 in Island Falls.  As a result of the stop and search of the vehicle, Tr. Darcy charged a 30-year-old male from Portland with Possession of a Usable Amount of Marijuana and the Sale and Use of Drug Paraphernalia.

March  14 - Trooper Bell’s assistance was requested by a Border Patrol Agent that suspected two snowmobiles crossed the border illegally in Hodgdon.  The agent showed the trooper a picture of the snowmobiles and Tr. Bell was able to help successfully find two snowmobiles that matched the physical description at a residence in Hodgdon.  Border Patrol was notified and took over the investigation.

March  14 - Trooper Bell investigated a crash involving Trooper Darcy on Route 1 in Houlton.  A southbound van on Route 1 ran a red light and failed to yield right-of-way to Tr. Darcy’s cruiser which was exiting I-95 NB and preparing to turn north onto Route 1.  The cruiser had a green light and was actually the third vehicle in line at the light.  Both vehicles in front of Tr. Darcy made it across the intersection and Tr. Darcy was almost through the intersection when the van struck the rear driver’s side of the cruiser.  There was damage to both vehicles.  No one was injured.

Troop F of the Maine State Police is responsible for Aroostook County and the extreme northern sections of Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties.
