Jan. 1 - At approximately 0500 hours on New Year’s Day, Trooper Adam Stoutamyer responded to the Pulcifer Rd. in Mapleton to a reported car fire. When Trooper Stoutamyer arrived, the Mapleton Fire Department had extinguished the fire, and the vehicle was an obvious total loss with about 95% of it damaged or destroyed. The vehicle was unattended, and registered to a female of Presque Isle. At about 0630 hours, female was seen by Trooper Stoutamyer as she was walking down the road toward the vehicle. Female admitted to drinking from about midnight to 0100 hours, but not after that time, and has no memory of how she or her vehicle got to their current locations on the Pulcifer Rd. She said she walked up the road to a residence to try to use their telephone to call for help, and they told her to leave as they felt she had broken into their residence. She had no symptoms of being under the influence at the time she was located, and the incident was treated as a property damage accident. The homeowners later reported that a female had broken into their home, so Trooper Stoutamyer responded there as well and observed that the exterior door had been forced open slightly damaging the wooden door casing. The female may be charged with Criminal Mischief for the damage to the door.

The male disclosed that a second male had been with him but had fled on foot. It was snowing heavily at the time and it was not hard for Trooper Sylvia to locate tracks from the second male in the snow. The tracks were followed for almost two miles from the scene to another road where the male was found hiding in the ditch. The operator of the car was arrested for theft and the second male was arrested for theft, violation of bail and a no bail warrant, both were transported to ACJ without incident. Trooper Sylvia was able to locate the three containers of fuel that the men had siphoned from equipment at the location and he returned those to the owner.
