Park officials say the Precipice Trail, the Precipice Cliff area, and the Orange and Black Path on Champlain Mountain are opening Friday after being closed in April to support recovery efforts for the falcons, which are listed as an endangered species under the Maine Endangered Species Act.

Acadia was selected in the 1980s to be one of the reintroduction sites for a peregrine falcon recovery program. In the past 20 years, more than 110 chicks have fledged on Mount Desert Island.
