Maine’s Acadia National Park Named One of America’s Top 5
One of the most popular travel sites is shining a bright light on one of Maine's most beloved spots, Acadia National Park.
The Pine Tree State's magical oasis was recently recognized by the site Lonely Planet for its natural beauty and awe-inspiring landscapes in a new article about the best national parks in the nation.
Is Acadia National Park One of the Best in America?
Acadia was named the 5th best national park in America. That's a very impressive ranking, especially considering there are 63 national parks in the country.
It's no surprise to see Acadia National Park ranked so highly—it's a stunningly perfect destination. The park offers a wide range of activities ideal for any time of year, including camping, sightseeing, birding, horseback riding, kayaking, and some of the best mountain hiking around.
The true cherry on top, however, has to be the views. Acadia boasts some of the most breathtaking scenery you’ll find: rocky shorelines, hidden ponds, incredible mountaintop vistas, and gorgeous lakes. And, of course, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to snap photos along the way.
But don't just take my word for it. Here’s a bit of why Lonely Planet named Acadia America’s 5th best national park:
Acadia National Park is a gorgeous slice of classic New England, with a deeply indented rocky coastline, rounded ancient mountains, picturesque lighthouses and fishing villages dotting the natural harbors. Hiking trails wind through cool, moist forests that represent a transition zone between the northern boreal forest and the deciduous forests typical of more southerly parts of the region.
It's wonderful to see Acadia getting the recognition it deserves. The park has a special kind of uniqueness that truly screams Maine. It’s the only true northeastern destination that encompasses all the region’s best features, including mountains that literally touch the sea. I’m glad to see that those “from away” agree as well.

1. Yellowstone National Park
2. Grand Canyon National Park
3. Mount Rainier National Park
4. Olympic National Park
That’s quite a group of parks for Acadia to be part of. You can find the full Top 12 from Lonely Planet online.
