Maine State Police and emergency crews were called to a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger van Sunday evening on Route 2 in Silver Ridge Township. Trooper Tim Saucier responded to the crash shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Police say 35-year-old Chad Day and his family were traveling south in a 2007 Chrysler van, and were preparing to make a left turn into their driveway.

At the same time, 55-year-old William Cook of East Millinocket was headed south in a 1993 Peterbilt tractor trailer. Police say Cook was unaware that Day was turning left and pulled out to pass, crashing into the rear of the van.

Also in the van with Day was 34-year-old Jamie Day, and their two boys, ages 14 and 8. State Police say all four sustained injuries and were transported by Patten Ambulance to Millinocket Regional Hospital. They have all been released from the hospital after spending the night there.

Cook was not injured and was charged with improper passing, according to Sgt. Joshua Haines. All five people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.

The tractor-trailer unit is owned by Keith Mitchell and Son’s trucking in Sherman.
