State Police say a Caribou man was injured early Thursday morning when two tractor trailers collided on Route 1 in Cyr Plantation.

Trooper Andrew Levesque and Trooper Robert Flynn of the Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit responded to the head-on crash shortly after 4 a.m.

Maine State Police say 34-year-old Melvin Ray of Dayton, Ohio was operating a 2013 Volvo trailer truck southbound on the Van Buren Road when he lost control on a steep hill. It was snowing at the time. The truck and trailer jackknifed and fully blocked the northbound lane.

Meanwhile, 67-year-old David Lamoreau of Caribou was traveling north on the Van Buren Road in a 2015 Western Star trailer truck. Police say Lamoreau could not stop in time due to poor road conditions and struck the Volvo and the trailer. He was transported to Cary Medical Center in Caribou with minor injuries.

Route 1 was down to one lane of travel for about 5 hours Thursday morning while crews removed the two trucks from the roadway. Both vehicles and trailers are considered a total loss.
