Tractor Trailer Crash on I-95 in Houlton
Maine State Police say a New Brunswick man was uninjured after his loaded flatbed tractor trailer slid off the Interstate in Houlton early Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews responded to the crash around 4:30 a.m. at the on ramp of I-95 southbound. Freezing rain and sleet overnight had left the roadway slippery.
State Police say 42-year-old Darren Grey of Peel, New Brunswick had just crossed the border at the Houlton Port of Entry and was southbound when he encountered a slow-moving vehicle entering the interstate. Grey changed lanes to pass the vehicle and lost control of his rig.
The 2018 Volvo Tractor Trailer, owned by H.J. Crabbe of Florenceville-Bristol, was loaded with wood pellets. Police say it slid off the highway into the median and came to rest against the embankment. No one was injured in the crash.
The interstate was reduced to one lane while Westerdahl's Towing recovered and towed the vehicle. The load of pellets was transferred to another truck.
Houlton Police assisted in the initial response along with Maine Dept. of Transportation.
