The Most Haunted Route In The County
If you've traveled on Route 2A in the County, then you probably are aware that it's not only a very dangerous route, but some say it's where haunts like to hang out to greet you.
Route 2A is so dangerous that in 1966, Dick Curless wrote a song about it called, "A Tombstone Every Mile." But others see it as the most haunted route in Maine.
You might be wondering, "What makes Route 2A in the Haynesville Woods so stinkin' dangerous?" That's a great question.
Because of its potential icy and snowy roads, not to mention its S-type curves, many truckers have lost their lives while hauling potatoes to Boston, especially after hitting a hairy, dangerous hairpin turn.
According to legends, truckers weren't the only ones to lose their lives on the route.
It's been said that travelers have occasionally seen a woman screaming that her husband is trapped in their vehicle as she begs travelers to stop and help them.
However, when the travelers stop, get out of their car and get close to the woman, they say she vanishes away.
Other Route 2A travelers have said that they've seen a little girl on the side of the road. It's said that her life was taken by a semi-truck who hit her on the route many years ago.
If you find yourself traveling on Route 2A in Wytopitlock, Maine and happen to see the little girl or the woman, keep on going or you could be the next tombstone in the Haynesville Woods.
