Maine State Police – Troop F’s weekly incident report…

2/10 - Tr. Whalen stopped a vehicle in Mapleton for a traffic infraction and found the male operator to be under suspension and also had a warrant for his arrest. During the arrest, Tr. Whalen located a used hypodermic needle in the male’s pocket. The male was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, OAS, and several traffic offenses. The male was also sought by PIPD for his involvement in a theft investigation they were conducting. Tr. Whalen brought the male to PIPD to meet with their Officers.

2/10 – Tr. Quint searched for a woman who had left her residence despondent and family members expressed concern for her wellbeing. Tr. Quint located the woman and discovered she was lethargic and unsteady. The woman admitted she had taken a large number of pills but was not certain how many or what types. Tr. Quint was able to convince the woman to go with him to the hospital where she was treated and then held for evaluation. A suicide note was later located in the woman’s vehicle.

2/10-2/11 - Tr. Sylvia attended two days of K-9 training.

2/11 - An off-duty Washburn Police Reserve Officer contacted State Police in Houlton and informed them he had come into contact with a white 2004 Pontiac van that had been reported stolen from Fort Fairfield the prior night. The officer followed the vehicle to a residence located on Forest Ave. in Easton. Tr. Flynn arrived at the residence and arrested the van’s operator, 34 year old Robert Fieler, for receiving stolen property. Officers from Fort Fairfield Police Department came to the residence and provided details of their investigation into the theft of the van. During the investigation, it was learned Fieler’s license was suspended and he was on probation and currently on bail. Troopers also discovered the owner of the residence on Forest Ave, Eric Brigman, age 43, had an active warrant for Failure to Appear issued by the Presque Isle District Court. Brigman was arrested on that warrant. Both men were taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. Tr. Clark assisted in the investigation. The van was secured by Fort Fairfield P.D.

2/11-2/12 - Sgt. Haines attended two days of Tac Team training in Augusta.

2/12 - Tr. Saucier conducted a traffic stop on the Station Rd in Stacyville and as a result of the stop arrested a 55 year old Phippsburg man for OUI.

2/12 - Troopers Flynn and Casavant responded to the Bridgewater Gulf Station for a report of a male subject inside the store making statements related to everyone blowing up. Aroostook County Sheriff’s Deputies and Border Patrol all responded and secured the 30 year old Houlton man. Further investigation revealed the man admitted to being under the influence of bath salts and was transported to the Aroostook Medical Center for a medical evaluation. Tr. Whalen and his K-9 responded and cleared the scene to ensure it was safe and no explosives were brought in the store or in the man’s vehicle. The store was closed for approximately two hours. Lt. Cote and Sgt. Haines also responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation. The case remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the Aroostook County District Attorney’s Office for potential charges.

2/12 - Tr. Hafford arrested a 71 year old male for stalking a local priest. The male had been leaving disturbing notes at different parishes for the priest to read. The male is currently being held at Aroostook County Jail pending a mental health evaluation.

2/13 - Tr. Flynn investigated a family fight on the East Ridge Rd in Mars Hill. A civil dispute over a family farm led to a 78 year old man making conditional threats towards his son. The ADA was consulted and no charges approved. The man was warned not to make further statements or he would be charged.

2/14 - Tr. Levesque investigated a report of a snow sled trail groomer that was taken during the night in St. Agatha. A 16 yr. old male had gotten his snow sled stuck on the trail and had taken the groomer in an attempt to get his sled unstuck. While using the groomer, the male caused damage to the hydraulics and hoses on the drag, the male agreed to pay for the damages to the groomer and was not charged per the snow sled club’s wishes.

2/15 - Tr. Levesque stopped to investigate an unattended vehicle parked in the entrance to the MDOT lot in Woodland. As he was checking the car, a male came out of the residence across the street and said the car was his. Further investigation found the male was on bail conditions, during a subsequent search by Tr. Levesque, a used hypodermic needle was found along with various other drug paraphernalia. Male was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

2/15 - Tr. Whalen responded to a report of a possible stolen vehicle in Mars Hill, subsequent investigation determined the vehicle theft to be unfounded. During the investigation Tr. Whalen charged two males with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of usable amount of marijuana and arrested a female on an outstanding warrant.

2/15 - Tr. Monahan responded to a report of a tractor trailer that was speeding and making bad passes on Rt. 1 in Bridgewater. Tr. Monahan located the trailer truck and after speaking to operator about his operation, found out he was under suspension. Male was charged with OAS and another driver was located for the truck.

2/15 - Tr. Lilley stopped for a 10-59 in Oakfield. While speaking to the male occupant, Tr. Lilley detected a strong odor of marijuana. Subsequent search located a baggie of marijuana in male’s pocket. Male was summonsed for possession of the marijuana.

2/17 - Tr. Hafford received a complaint of a motor vehicle crash that occurred in St. Francis. Investigation showed that a group of young people had gone onto a logging road and came across an adult male walking. This man told the group that his friends had gone off the road and needed a pull. This male was carrying a handgun and was intoxicated. They drove to the scene of the crash and once there, the male started firing the pistol, saying “I’m so happy”. The other two subjects involved in the crash were also intoxicated. The male driver asked one of the young people if he would help locate a shotgun that he had thrown into the woods. He stated that he had gotten angry after the crash and broke the window out of the driver’s side door with a shotgun and then had thrown it into the woods. After being pulled out, the male driver backed up and into a pickup truck, causing damage. When confronted about having hit the pickup, the driver smiled and drove off. Tr. Hafford located the adults involved in the incident and arrested a male from Old Orchard Beach for felon in possession of a firearm and reckless conduct with a firearm, and summonsed the male driver for leaving the scene of a property damage accident and OAS.

2/17 - Tr. Flynn stopped a vehicle based on a traffic complaint from PIPD. As a result the operator was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and the 51 year old passenger was arrested for a bail violation after failing a drug test.

2/17 - Tr. Sylvia handled a trespassing complaint on the Bangor Rd in Linneus.

2/18 - Tr. Sylvia arrested a 28 year old Linneus woman on a warrant.

2/18 - Tr. Flynn provided instruction at the BLETP on motor vehicle law.

2/19 – Tr. Casavant responded to a well-being check in Bridgewater after a father was arguing with his 29 year old son who has mental challenges. The father left for work and wanted his son evaluated. The son was found to be calm and not suicidal or in crisis and refused treatment.

2/19 - Tr. Casavant and Sgt. Haines investigated a trespass/harassment complaint on the Boundryline Rd in Bridgewater. A mother wanted her son warned not to return to her property. The son was served a trespass notice and both he and his brother were very confrontational with police. 2/19-2/20 - Troopers Sylvia and Clark provided instruction at the RTT on search warrants.

2/20 - Tr. Lilley, Deputy Montpetit, and Tr. Ferland responded to a residence in Island Falls. They had information that a 36 year old male on probation for domestic violence assault was living with the victim in violation of his probation. The male was located at the residence, arrested, and transported to Aroostook County Jail.

2/22 – Tr. Monahan responded to a two-vehicle crash in Littleton. A 34 year old Littleton woman rolled her pick-up onto its side as she swerved to avoid another vehicle that had stopped in the roadway. The woman sustained minor injuries and was transported to Houlton Hospital where she was treated and released.

2/22 - Tr. Ferland responded to a group home in Patten. A 67 year old resident of the group home was found deceased in his bed. There was nothing suspicious about the death and it has been ruled as natural.

2/23 - Sgt. Harris, Sgt. Fuller, and Tr. Ferland responded to a residence in Littleton. A 31 year old female had gotten into an argument with her husband. During the argument, the female picked up a knife and went into the bathroom. A 13 year old child in the residence called police when the woman picked up the knife because he was afraid. When State Police arrived, it was determined that the knife was not used to assault or threaten anyone and it was a verbal confrontation. The woman called a relative to come and pick her up and she left for the night. DHS was notified of the incident.

 

Troop F of the Maine State Police is responsible for Aroostook County and the extreme northern sections of Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties. In addition, the Troop patrols Interstate 95 from Sherman to the Canadian border in Houlton.
