With a similar bill being considered in Washington, a group of 35 Maine lawmakers is co-sponsoring a bill to regulate marijuana like alcohol on the state level.  LD 1229, an “Act to Tax and Regulate Marijuana,” would make the private possession and home growing of small amounts of marijuana legal in Maine for people 21 and older.

Yes, today is the first official day of Spring, but it certainly doesn’t look like it!

Barenaked Ladies will be returning to rock the stage at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor this summer.  The multiplatinum-selling band will be joined by Ben Folds Five and Guster on their ‘Last Summer on Earth’ tour. The 2013 Northern Star Finale was held yesterday afternoon at the Caribou Performing Arts Center. Northern Star is a regional singing competition that brings together the best of the best from Northern Maine and Western New Brunswick, hosted by United Way of Aroostook. There were two categories this year: Solo and Group.

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for most of Northern Maine from around 1pm Sunday through much of the day on Monday. At the same time, Environment Canada has  posted a Blowing Snow Warning for Western New Brunswick.

A meteor streaked across the sky in Central Russia this morning, causing sharp explosions that blew the glass out of buildings and injured more than 520 people, including 82 children.  The BBC reports at least 11 people required hospitalization.
