Blizzard Warning Posted For Northern Maine

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for most of Northern Maine from around 1pm Sunday through much of the day on Monday. At the same time, Environment Canada has  posted a Blowing Snow Warning for Western New Brunswick.

Although snowfall totals of 4-8 inches will be much less than the massive storm that crippled the Northeast last weekend, strong, gusty winds will lead to major travel difficulties.

Forecasters say wind gusts of more than 40 mph will lead to widespread blowing snow and whiteout conditions on the roads well into the day on Monday.

The National Weather Service classifies a blizzard as a prolonged snowstorm accompanied by strong winds and blowing snow that results in visibility of less than a quarter of a mile. The difference between a blizzard and a snowstorm is the strength of the wind, not necessarily the amount of snow.
