The report shows that 102 vehicles were involved in 31 reportable crashes on a 4-mile stretch of the highway on the morning of February 25th.  There were another 40 vehicles that slid off the Interstate to avoid the accident scene.

Of the 149 people involved in the various collisions, there were 32 reports of injury.   The report showed that 17 people were taken by ambulance to Bangor area hospitals, 4 went to walk-in clinics, and several others were treated at the scene.

State Police say the speed limit on the Interstate had been reduced in that area due to moderate to heavy snowfall and reduced visibility.

The investigation concluded that the chain-reaction crashes during the busy morning commute resulted from imprudent speed or vehicles following too closely.
