In response to the growing overdose cases popping up in Maine, Gov. Mills and her administration plans to begin placing the overdose reversal drug Narcan in public buildings. The administration has announced over 35,000 of these 'NaloBoxes' will be distributed throughout the state and can be found near automated external defibrillator, or AED, devices used to revive individuals in cardiac arrest.

It was reported that in the first 9 months of 2018, 282 deaths occured due to overdose. Other states have already begun to implement similar devices in order to combat the opioid crisis.
