Special Olympics Snowdogs Players Get Boost from Northern Maine Bank
Katahdin Trust has presented a $600 contribution to the Aroostook County Snowdogs Special Olympics basketball team.
Brian Hamel is Volunteer Head Coach of the Aroostook County Snowdogs. He says the Katahdin Trust donation will fund the purchase of much-needed new basketballs and pinney jerseys for the players. Hamel says it's important when donors like Katahdin step forward to recognize the efforts of Special Olympian athletes. "It boosts their confidence level knowing members of our community are supporting their efforts on and off the basketball court."
The goal of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, "giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community."
