Police say the fraudsters are contacting people by phone, and claiming to be Microsoft or Windows employees, they ask people to perform certain tasks on their computers.  The scheme leads to victims being coaxed into providing personal banking or credit card information.

“The RCMP wants anyone who receives this type of call to be aware of this scam,” says Constable Jean-Pierre Bouchard.  “Never provide personal or financial information over the telephone, unless you yourself have initiated the call to a legitimate business.”

If you believe that you or a loved one may have been a victim if this type of fraud, please contact local police.  Frauds and scams can also be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (1-888-654-9426).
