Police in Quebec confirm that at least three people are dead and as many as 30 others are missing after a major fire at a seniors residence in eastern Quebec.

The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. Thursday in L’Isle-Verte, about 18 miles northeast of Riviere-du-Loup, according to Canadian Press.

Several fire departments were called in to help extinguish the blaze, which completely destroyed the building.

Authorities are working to determine the exact number of victims and the cause of the deadly blaze.
