A local group with a big range and an even bigger, brassier sound is making a return to the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Star City Syndicate will take to the stage in the Auditorium in Wieden Hall on Saturday, March 9 at 7 p.m. The group will perform a special fundraising concert for the Larry Hall Memorial Scholarship, a cause near and dear to band members’ hearts.

This fan-favorite group has grown their audience at many summer events across the County, offering up a mix from classic hits to contemporary pop. Syndicate members range from mild-mannered music teachers, postal workers, clergy members, to other unassuming professionals in the community, such as our own Townsquare Media newsman and Operations Manager, Mark Shaw.

During the March 9 concert, the group will perform a slew of top hits spanning the last 50 years by artists such as Aretha Franlklin, Sly & The Family Stone, Santana and Portugal. The Man.

Proceeds from this concert will go to the Larry Hall Memorial Fund, named after the legendary local music educator, instrument repair technician, and beloved musician. Larry—or “Mr. Hall,” as he was known to his thousands of students—was well-known among his friends for his quiet charity and generosity. He often donated his personal time, money, and even instruments to enable fellow musicians in need, both young and old, to continue to create music.

The Syndicate is grateful for a chance to honor their bandmate, and to make sure his legacy lives on.

Admission is free for this high energy, family-friendly event, but donations of all sizes will be accepted at the door.
