State Police are searching for a man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a 31-year-old woman in St. Francis, Maine early Saturday morning.

According to Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call at 5:45 a.m. to respond to a domestic violence call at 754 Main Street in St. Francis.  State Police also responded at that time.

Before officers arrived, they learned that a woman, age 31, had been shot and killed.  Witnesses in the home told police they saw Jesse Marquis leave the residence with a rifle and enter the woods behind the house.

State Police, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Deputies, U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are actively searching for 38-year-old Jesse Marquis of Fort Kent.  Marquis is described as  5’7”, 150 pounds with black hair and blue eyes. He was wearing  blue jeans, green hooded sweatshirt and a red Cabela's ball cap.

The suspect was last seen entering the woods on the south side of Route 161 in St. Francis, McCausland said.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating Marquis.  If you see someone matching his description, please call  the State Police barracks in Houlton immediately at 207-532-5400 or Aroostook County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-638-8477.

State Police are warning people not to approach Marquis as he is considered armed and dangerous.
