Watch Brunswick Police Chase An Emu Running Down The Road

If you're only encounter with an emu was in a Liberty Mutual commercial with "LiMu Emu and Doug," then wait until you see what the Brunswick Police chased down.

I have to give credit the the ad agency that came up with LiMu Emu & Doug for Liberty Mutual Insurance. It's got a catchy name and a catchy jingle. It hasn't been running as long as the Progressive Insurance commercials with Flo, but they're a close second.

The Brunswick Police Department posted two photos and a video on their Facebook page showing a dash cam in the cruiser recording as an emu is running away from the police on the evening of July 14. You can't make this stuff up.

Here's what Brunswick PD said in their Facebook post:

Our officers had an emu-sing encounter last night!

They responded to reports of a large bird seen along the roadside—and were surprised to find an emu who had decided to take himself on a little adventure after slipping out of his yard.

When Officers Michaud and Clark arrived, the emu made a brief dash into the roadway before settling comfortably in the Midcoast Hospital parking lot. Thankfully, he was happy to wait there until his owners arrived to bring him home safely.

All's well that ends well, I guess. Just when you think that you've seen everything in Maine, you can now check "Emu Police Chase" off your bingo card.
