Chief Matthew J. Irwin of Presque Isle has announced his candidacy as a Republican for the Office of Aroostook County Sheriff.

Chief Irwin has been a law enforcement officer for nearly 34 years.  Beginning his career with one of the largest sheriff’s offices in the United States, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (Florida) in 1984, Chief Irwin served in several capacities including, corrections, patrol, narcotics, criminal investigations, and professional standards.

Leaving Orange County in 2011 as a lieutenant, Chief Irwin was appointed as the Presque Isle Police Chief, where he currently serves.

Chief Irwin’s experience in Presque Isle over the past seven years has led him to believe there is a better way for law enforcement to serve residents and guests of The County.
