PIFD and BikeMaine to Hold Free Bike Skills Course for Kids
On Sunday, September 9, the Presque Isle Fire Department will be working with Shannon Belt, the Education and Outreach Coordinator from the Bicycle Coalition of Maine (the organization that puts on the BikeMaine event), to provide a FREE Bike Skills Course for kids.
The course, which is designed primarily for kids in Kindergarten through Third Grade, is essentially an obstacle course. The kids will ride on Balance bikes provided by the Bicycle Coalition that have no pedals which puts all students on the same level as they experience small ramps, balance beams, a teeter-totter; and learn other agility skills. Helmets will also be provided.
The Bike Skills event will begin at 8:00 a.m. and run until 11:00 a.m. in the Public Market Pavilion along Riverside Drive. This will take place as 450 riders participating in this year’s BikeMaine event leave Presque Isle on the first leg of the week-long bike trek.
For more information on the Bike Skills Course event, please contact Deputy Fire Chief Adam Rider at Presque Isle Fire Department at 769-0881.
