Police say a Chevy Colbalt was heading westbound shortly after 7:30 a.m. when the car drifted to the shoulder of the highway. The driver lost control and the vehicle skidded, then rolled over several times, according to Acadie Nouvelle.

The passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car. Police say he was transported to Edmundston Regional Hospital with broken bones and other injuries not considered life-threatening.

The driver miraculously escaped without any serious injuries in the crash.

The Edmundston Police Force, Edmundston Fire Department, Ambulance NB and RCMP officers all responded to the scene. The highway was closed to traffic for nearly 45 minutes Sunday morning.

The accident remains under investigation, but it appears the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, according to the RCMP.
