State Police say that around noontime Tuesday the homeowner reported a building on his property in Eagle Lake had been broken into and five guns had been stolen.  The investigation revealed that the break-in occurred sometime in the past two weeks, according to a press release from Trooper Chuck Michaud.

Maine State Troopers and Waldo County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 22-year-old Anthony Hawkins in the town of Palermo on Tuesday afternoon. Police recovered the stolen property, which included four handguns and an AK-47 assault rifle.

Hawkins was transported to the Waldo County Jail and will be charged with violation of probation, burglary, theft, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Trooper Corey Hafford will travel to Belfast Wednesday to collect the stolen guns and to charge the suspect, Michaud said.
