The RCMP New Brunswick Internet Child Exploitation Unit has arrested a 24-year-old Moncton man on charges of crimes against children over the past five years.

The man, who cannot be named because of a court-issued publication ban in order to protect the identity of the victim, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court on Friday. He was charged with making child pornography, possessing child pornography, making available child pornography, touching a person under the age of 14 for sexual purposes, and sexual assault.

The offences are alleged to have occurred between January 2010 and December 2014 in Moncton and Saint-Léonard, N.B., according to Sgt. Jean-Marc Pare of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

The RCMP investigation began in the fall of 2014 as the result of information received from the York Regional Police in Ontario.

The individual has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on February 27 at 1:30 p.m. for a bail hearing.
