One man was taken for a mental health evaluation Friday morning after he was attempting to jump off the Piscataqua River Bridge in Kittery.

Involved in Car Crash

The Maine State Police said the man was also involved in a two-car crash on the bridge just before the incident.

“Experiencing a Mental Health Crisis”

“The man was experiencing a mental health crisis and had been driving to jump off the bridge when he was involved in the earlier crash,” said the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Safely Taken into Custody

Officers with the Kittery Police made contact with the man and safely took him into custody for a mental health evaluation.

Ongoing Investigation

No injuries were reported from the crash. Traffic was delayed for close to 30 minutes for police to negotiate with the man and clear the damaged vehicles.
