The RCMP is investigating a head-on collision near Belledune Tuesday morning that claimed the life of a 28-year-old man from Miramichi.

Police responded to the collision around 8:20 a.m. on Highway 11 near the Jacquet River exit, according to Sgt. Ben Jolette of the Bathurst Detachment.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A man and woman in the other vehicle were taken to hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Sgt. Jolette said the preliminary investigation indicates that road conditions may have contributed to the crash.

The highway was blocked for approximately three hours Tuesday morning. The investigation is continuing.
