
Man Died after Wrong-Way Crash with Tractor-Trailer in Maine
An 86-year-old man died Friday morning after a wrong-way crash with a tractor-trailer on I-295 in Falmouth.
Pronounced Dead at the Scene
George Vandenburgh from Portland died at the scene around 6 a.m.
Head-On Collision
The Maine State Police said Vandenburgh “collided head-on with a tractor trailer unit traveling southbound near Exit 4 on Interstate 295.”
Wrong-Way Driver 911 Calls
Witnesses called 911 and reported a wrong-way driver on I-95 in Scarborough and later on I-295 in Falmouth.
Tractor Trailer Driver Injured
The truck driver was injured and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Both Lanes of Traffic Closed for Hours
“Both the northbound and southbound lanes were closed to traffic for several hours,” said the Maine Department of Public Safety. All lanes have reopened. The crash is under investigation.
