A home was completely destroyed Monday after a fire in Falmouth.

House Fully Involved When Fire Crews Arrived on the Scene

The residential fire happened around 4:11 pm on Red Oak Drive. Firefighting crews arrived on the scene to find the house fully involved in flames.

Accidental Fire from a Space Heater Ignited Couch

The State Fire Marshal’s Office said the tenants told investigators that an accidental fire started earlier in the day with an electric space heater that ignited a couch on fire.

Fire Appeared to Rekindle after Occupants Extinguished It

“The occupants reported they believed they had extinguished the fire, but it appears to have rekindled after they left,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

The Tenants Were not Home at the Time of the Fire and No Injuries Were Reported

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported for first responders or fire department personnel.

The Cause of Fire is Undetermined s the Investigation is Ongoing

The fire is under investigation at the State Fire Marshal's Office. “Due to the extent of the damage the fire is being classified as undetermined,” said Moss.
