Pickup Truck Crashes into Two Maine Moose at The Same Time Wednesday Morning
Authorities are investigating a serious wildlife-related crash that happened in the early morning hours of Wednesday in Big Moose Township, not far from Greenville.
According to the Greenville Firefighters Association, a pickup truck was traveling along Rockwood Road around 2:10 a.m. when it struck two moose that were standing together in the middle of the roadway.
WGME reported that officials said visibility was likely limited at that hour, and with moose being notoriously hard to spot at night, especially on rural roads. The driver likely didn't have much time to react.
Both moose were reportedly in close proximity when the collision occurred, and the impact caused significant damage to the vehicle. Fortunately, WGME is reporting that no one in the truck was hurt in the impact with the moose.
First responders, including local firefighters and emergency personnel, arrived on scene shortly after the crash to secure the area and assess the situation. The news station explained that the incident serves as a reminder that moose collisions remain a real and dangerous risk, particularly during overnight hours on less-traveled Maine roads.
Drivers are urged to use caution, especially in areas known for high wildlife activity. Moose can weigh over 1,000 pounds and often blend in with the darkness, making nighttime travel in rural parts of the state particularly hazardous.
