Maine State Police Troop ‘F’ Weekly Report (Jan. 21 – 27)
Troop F of the Maine State Police responded to 155 calls for service in and around Aroostook County this past week. Here are the incidents included in their weekly report:
Incident Type: ACCIDENT - MULTI VEHICLE Date: 1/21/2019 Town: HOULTON Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint responded to a multivehicle crash on the northbound side of Interstate 95 in Houlton. Cpl. Quint learned that a four-door sedan was passing a tractor trailer fuel truck and lost control on the snow-covered road. The sedan hit the guard rail and slid into the tractor trailer coming to rest sideways in the roadway. The crash caused a chain reaction of crashes behind it. There were seven vehicles involved in the crash including several power company trucks that were heading back to Canada. The driver of the sedan was transported to Houlton Regional hospital with serious but non-life threatening injures. The interstate was shut down for approximately three hours while crews cleared the roadway.
Incident Type: OAS Date: 1/22/2019 Town: NEW LIMERICK Trooper: TR. BELL Brief Synopsis: Tr Bell and Recruit French observed a vehicle operating with an obstructed registration plate. Recruit French pulled the vehicle over and found that the female operator was under suspension. Tr Bell summonsed her for OAS and her husband came to drive the vehicle home.
Incident Type: OAS Date: 1/23/2019 Town: OAKFIELD Trooper: TR. ADAMS Brief Synopsis: Tr Adams and Recruit French stopped a vehicle in Oakfield for expired inspection sticker and obscured registration plate. The male operator was under suspension in Maine and active in Indiana. Tr Adams summonsed the male for OAS in Maine and his wife, a passenger in the vehicle drove the truck from the scene.
Incident Type: THEFT Date: 1/24/2019 Town: MARS HILL Trooper: CPL. MICHAUD Brief Synopsis: A local man reported that he had some items stolen from his apartment while he had been away from home for approximately 6 months. The man is currently going through his belongings and compiling a list of missing items. The investigation is ongoing.
Incident Type: ACCIDENT Date: 1/24/2019 Town: I-95 Trooper: TR. SAUCIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Saucier responded to more than 5 separate vehicles that skidded off I-95 in the afternoon hours of 1/24/19. Heavy rains had pooled water on local roadways and the interstate. Motorists that had not reduced their speed found themselves hydroplaning and skidded off the interstate.
Incident Type: CRIMINAL SPEED Date: 1/25/2019 Town: PATTEN Trooper: TR. SAUCIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Saucier charged a Patten man with Criminal Speed and Operating After suspension. While on routine patrol, Tr. Saucier pulled a vehicle over that was going more than 30 MPH over the speed limit. A license check revealed that the man’s right to operate was under suspension.
Incident Type: ACCIDENT Date: 1/24/2019 Town: CASTLE HILL Trooper: TR. DESROSIER Brief Synopsis: Tr. Desrosier responded to a tractor trailer that was stuck on a hill in New Canada. The tractor trailer could not make it up a hill which caused an extensive line of traffic to be stopped for several hours until MDOT could put down enough salt to allow the trucks to move on.
Incident Type: OUI Date: 1/26/2019 Town: HOULTON Trooper: TR. DUFF Brief Synopsis: Tr. Duff responded to a vehicle crash on the interstate in Houlton. Tr. Duff’s investigation revealed that the operator was under the influence of alcohol. Tr. Duff arrested the man and transported him to the Aroostook County Jail.
Incident Type: THEFT Date: 1/26/2019 Town: MARS HILL Trooper: CPL. QUINT Brief Synopsis: Cpl. Quint responded to a parking lot in Mars Hill for a report of criminal mischief. Cpl. Quint learned that a vehicle had a hole drilled in its fuel tank and the fuel was stolen. The drill bit was left in the tank. The investigation is ongoing.
