When we say that Mainers take their hot dogs seriously, we’re not joking.

For the past several years, Dexter has been home to the 'Maine Red Hot Dog Festival,' bringing folks from all across the state and even those 'from away' to Penobscot County, as an effort from the Dexter Revitalization Committee, to see what Dexter and the region as a whole have to offer.

That’s right, we love hot dogs so much that we hold full-day festivals to celebrate them.

This upcoming year’s Maine Red Hot Dog Festival will take place in Dexter on Saturday, August 10th, and will include fun festivities such as a 'Bun Run' 5K race, a red hot dog eating contest, a chainsaw artist, and a lot more.

Alright, we get that Mainers and Maine residents love their hot dogs, but which restaurant was voted to have the best hot dog in the state?

The publication Mashed recently put together a list of 'The Best Place To Get A Hot Dog In Every State,' and Maine’s pick may be a bit surprising.

Maine’s pick for the best hot dog in the state is Flo's Hot Dogs in Cape Neddick.

Mashed had the following to say about Flo’s Hot Dogs:

Not everything we crave is available at all hours of the day, and when people in Cape Neddick, Maine want a dog from Flo's they need to plan accordingly, because the restaurant is only open for a few hours before closing back up to the dismay of those who arrived too late.

What makes the franks here so special? People say it's all about the special relish they make in house. It's a spicy chutney-like relish that pairs perfectly with the other two toppings: mayonnaise and celery salt.
