Thirty-one-year-old Alden Smith of Sangerville says he's running in the Democratic primary for the 2nd Congressional District. The seat is now held by Democrat Mike Michaud, who's likely to run for governor instead of re-election to Congress. Smith says he's a former Navy officer who now serves in the Naval Reserves in support of U.S. military efforts on the Korean Peninsula.

Twenty-four-year-old Isaac Misiuk of Gorham says he's running for the 1st Congressional District Republican primary for the seat now held by Chellie Pingree.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Misiuk says he's the former vice chairman of the Cumberland County Young Republicans and the former president of the College Republicans at the University of Southern Maine.
