Fire on Main Street in Presque Isle
The Presque Isle Fire Department responded to a fire at a 10-unit apartment building on Main Street late Sunday afternoon. Thick black smoke billowed from the upper level of the complex, which is situated between Rite Aid and Governor’s Restaurant.
Presque Isle Police asked the public to avoid the area, as fire crews had to pull hoses across Main and Academy Streets to get water to the site. Five apartments were heavily damaged.
Everyone is reported to have made it out safely, including several pets that were also rescued from the fire. Firefighters remained on the scene for about 3 1/2 hours, until shortly before 8:00 Sunday evening. No word yet on the cause.
