A fire Thursday afternoon in Blaine destroyed a garage but firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to a nearby home.

The Mars Hill Fire Department responded to the blaze at 116 Grass Road around 4 p.m., according to Chief Darrell Wilson. The Bridgewater Fire Department also helped battle the fire, which was in a remote area less than a mile from the Canadian border.

Chief Wilson tells us the garage was a total loss. The vinyl siding on one end of the house melted from the intense heat but there was no other damage to the home. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Wilson said.
