One person was injured Saturday after crashing over an embankment and landing in the Sabattus River in Lisbon.

Vehicle Crashed Down Embankment and into River

The crash happened around 12:21 pm near the Lisbon Flea Market on Lisbon Street.

Injured Driver Got Out of Crashed Vehicle Before First Responders Arrived

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle before emergency crews were on the scene.

Driver Injured and Transported to Area Hospital

The injured driver was taken to a local hospital by ambulance for medical treatment. Name and age were not released.

Vehicle Broke Through the Ice and Firefighters Wore Water Rescue Suits

“Due to the vehicle breaking through the ice, firefighters donned ice water rescue suits and prepared for a technical recovery operation,” according to the Lisbon Fire Department.

Wrecker Used to Remove Vehicle from River

A heavy rotating wrecker was used to remove the vehicle from the river.
