Normally when you go to our favorite fishing hole in Auburn, he is stellar and last time I checked he caught 5 fish in 5 minutes. The boys got talent, I'm telling you. But did you know that Maine has an official state fish?

But let's for a moment take a second to appreciate one specific fishy in Maine. It's called the Atlantic Salmon and it's Maine's official state fish, according to AZ animals.

Why is this fish so important?
Once the Atlantic Salmon Maine's inland waters, the fish becomes a vital part of the state's fishing ecosystem.
The food that they love to munch is the rainbow smelt, which helps them thrive in Maine's cool freshwater! The fact that we have a lot of smelt is pretty important for the salmon population's health.

Fishing for these fish is apparently a fine art that requires skill and patience.
Whether fly fishing on Maine's beautiful Rangeley Lakes or casting your pole on a any of our ponds, fisher people enjoy the challenge of reeling Maine's official state fish.
