Dense Fog Leads to Logging Truck Crash in Southern Aroostook
Maine State Police say a loaded log truck was involved in a crash Thursday night at the intersection of Route 1 and the Cropley Road in Weston.
Fifty-six-year-old Michael Steeves of Weston was operating a 2013 Peterbilt trailer truck loaded with logs on Route 1 at approximately 9 p.m. State Police say Steeves attempted to make a right turn onto the Cropley Road and missed the road due to dense fog.
The truck struck a utility pole, breaking the pole and pulling the electrical wires down across Route 1 and the Cropley Road. Corporal Corey Hafford said another log truck behind Steeves’ truck also became tangled in the wires, but there was no damage to the second truck.
Route 1 was shut down for over two hours Thursday night while crews worked to free the trucks from the wires.
Trooper Nick Casavant responded to the crash. Danforth Fire Department and Eastern Maine Electric were also on scene.
Police say Steeves was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
