COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Helping People With Substance Abuse With Stephen Tibbert
No doubt, you or someone you know has struggled with substance abuse. It's great when people get together in order to help those in our community get through the struggle.
Community Spotlight caught up with Stephen Tibbert, Community Center Manager for Roads to Recovery in Caribou, who try to help those struggling with substance abuse.
Tibbert explains what the organization is and does,
"Roads to Recovery is a community center and a partnership between AMHC and Recovery Aroostook whose goal is to provide a safe space, for those in recovery, from substance abuse disorder."
No matter how bad the scenario, Roads to Recovery is a place where people can simply stop in and take advantage of access to the recovery community, employment, housing or further treatment for themselves.
The aim of the group is to be a broker of those resources in order to help the individual.
Right now, they are located at 1 Water Street in Caribou, but Tibbert says that they are in the process of opening another facility in the Houlton area in the coming months.
All activities and resources are free to the public with no billing associated with the services they provide.
What Are Some Of The Activities Provided?
According to Tibbert, some activities provided at Roads to Recovery are psycho-educational groups like a wellness group and offered by a registered nurse. There are art groups, music therapy groups as well as monthly social events, to name a few.
If you would like to volunteer, Tibbert said they are in the process of wanting to paint the facility and would like to have some murals painted in the center as well.
The best way to contact them is through their Facebook page, or for more information you may call them at 207- 493-1278 or stop in at 1 Water Street at any time.
