Now, that's glassy.

After nearly a year of renovations, the new addition to the Colby College Museum of Art is has finally been completed and is scheduled to reopen to the public later this month. What is interesting is that with the addition of this glass building, the museum now becomes the largest art exhibition space in the state of Maine – 38,000 square feet.

The museum hopes to attract art lovers across Maine with more than 8,000 works on display when the facility finally reopens it’s doors on July 14. Organizers are hopeful that the gallery, along with some others in the state, will serve to cater to the Maine art community.

"I think that Colby along with those other institutions and the new addition will raise the profile of the state in terms of being a destination for art experiences," said Sharon Corwin, director and chief curator of the museum.

The architecture of the glass Alfond-Lunder Family Pavilion was designed to allow art to be visible at night while reflecting the elements of the outdoors throughout the day.

Some of the art featured in the gallery include works by Georgia O’Keeffe, Ansel Adams and Alex Katz.
