If you were to see the numbers of impoverished children in Maine, it might blow you away. But we have many poor hungry kids right here in the County.

According to the datacenter.kidscount.org numbers, about 2700 kids are living in poverty in Aroostook County as of 2015. It could be much higher today.

That equals out to about 22-percent of our children in the County who are potentially going hungry.

The Wayback Machine reports that 1 in 4 children in the state of Maine are in worry of where their next meal will come from.

Why is this?

Some might say it's the economy, high taxes, job loss, or poor life choices on the side of their parents. Whatever the reason, we know that it's a fact that kids are going hungry in the Pine Tree State.

Thankfully, there are places in the County that offer these hungry kids a free meal. If you or someone you know is suffering from hunger, take a look at the link here and help us all fight child hunger in Aroostook County.
