State troopers and the Maine Marine Patrol recovered the body of 46-year-old Traci Merriam from the Penobscot River in Prospect  around 7 a.m. Sunday, according to Steve McCausland of the Maine Department of Public Safety.

McCausland said it appears Merriam jumped from the Penobscot Narrows Bridge sometime during the night.  Her car was found parked along the bridge at about 4 a.m. and a suicide note was found inside. An autopsy is scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta.

Merriam was a fifth grade teacher at the Bucksport Middle School.
