According to Chief Deputy Sheriff Darrell Crandall, a passerby noticed the vehicle on its roof in the ditch beside the Foster Road in Littleton and called 911 around 7:30pm.

Deputies arrived a short time later and found no one in or around the vehicle, which had sustained significant damage. Over an hour later, Deputies located Paula Gardiner, 28, of Merrill, who admitted driving the vehicle. Cassidy Lefay, 18, of Crystal, was also reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Both women had minor scratches and were reported wearing their seatbelts.

The crash happened on a stretch of the Foster Road shortly after the road surface turns from asphalt to gravel. The cause remains under investigation but speed is believed to be a factor.

The vehicle is a total loss. Gardiner was issued a summons to appear in Houlton District Court.
